Brian is an character with a selfish asshole outside and an innocent child inside.

He's sophisticated yet idealistic ; elegantly slick yet very straight forward. All  these contrsdictions in his personality make him
such a tortured individual that make people wanna love him. (just like randy said,hehe)

I actually  don't  see him as a hero or a representation of queer spirit.
He is  kind of an idealist living in the real  world,  a child struggling against growing up.  The
pains he had to face, the conflicts he had to deal with, the emotions he had to surrender to....all these things
complete him as a man.
