Hmmm, I never assumed it meant they wouldn't see each other. You can even drive to New York from Pittsburgh ( as they did in season 1) in a short enough time and Brian is certainly rich enough to fly whenever the whim hits him. I guess its just how you look at it. I didn't see it as a final good bye.
