The new musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson officially opened at The Public Theater on Tuesday, April 6.

Written and directed by Alex Timbers, with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, the show takes a sharp, irreverent look at President Andrew Jackson, played by actor Benjamin Walker.

Opening night guests included Walker's fiancee, actress Mamie Gummer, and her mother, Oscar winner Meryl Streep, along with actors Jack Black, Claire Danes, Jesse Eisenberg, Linda Emond, Randy Harrison, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Celia Keenan-Bolger, and Michael Stuhlbarg, as well as musicians David Byrne and Dave Stewart.

The show's cast also includes River Aguirre as Lyncoya, James Barry as Male Soloist, Michael Crane as Clay/Blackhawk, Michael Dunn as Calhoun, Greg Hildreth as Red Eagle, Jeff Hiller as John Quincy Adams, Lucas Near-Verbrugghe as Martin Van Buren, Maria Elena Ramirez as Rachel, Kate Cullen Roberts as Elizabeth, Ben Steinfeld as Monroe, Colleen Werthmann as The Storyteller, and Emily Young as Female Soloist.

The production features scenic design by Donyale Werle, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Justin Townsend, and sound design by Bart Fasbender..
